The Tenth Doctor Adventures - Cover & Details

Big Finish have issued the details of a new set of audio stories featuring the Tenth Doctor and former companion Donna Noble, as played by David Tennant & Catherine Tate respectively. Read on for further details:

David Tennant is returning as the Tenth Doctor alongside Catherine Tate as his companion Donna Noble in three Doctor Who audio dramas!

David Tennant portrayed the Doctor on screen from 2005 until 1st January 2010, returning to play alongside Matt Smith and John Hurt in the 50th Anniversary special The Day of the Doctor in 2013. Catherine Tate made her debut as Donna in December 2006, and after a series and two festive specials she made her last appearance alongside David on 1st January 2010. Their on-screen partnership is generally regarded as one of the great high-points of the enduring science fiction phenomenon.

"I still remember the sense of joy I had when I heard that David had been asked to play the Doctor," says Big Finish executive producer Jason Haigh-Ellery. "We were all so pleased for him - as we knew how much Doctor Who meant to him. And now David comes full circle, back doing Doctor Who with Big Finish - except that this time he’s playing the Doctor! It’s the same but different - it’s wonderful to have him back!’

Doctor Who: The Tenth Doctor Adventures will be released in May 2016 and comprises three thrilling full cast audio adventures.

The series opens with Doctor Who - The Tenth Doctor Adventures: Technophobia by Matt Fitton, which is set in a London slightly in the future, where mankind is gradually losing its ability to use everyday technology. Could there be an evil force at work?

In Doctor Who - The Tenth Doctor Adventures: Time Reaver by Jenny T Colgan the Doctor and Donna arrive on Calibris – ‘An entirely mechanical planet. Catch, hitch, fuel, fix, buy, pretty much any kind of transportation in existence.’ It’s also a world full of scoundrels, where a deadly black market has opened up in a device known only as the Time Reaver.

Finally, in Doctor Who - The Tenth Doctor Adventures: Death and the Queen by James Goss, Donna is swept along in a fairytale romance and meets the man of her dreams in the beautiful land of Goritania. What can possibly go wrong? And why has the Doctor never heard of Goritania?

"I’ve enjoyed working with all the Doctors on TV, but David is on the only one I’d known before he became the Doctor," says executive producer Nicholas Briggs. "I’d worked with him on our Dalek Empire series for Big Finish and had such fun. So along with the excitement of directing new Tenth Doctor adventures, I’m so happy to be working with an old chum again."

Doctor Who: The Tenth Doctor Adventures is produced by David Richardson, script edited by Matt Fitton and James Goss and directed by Nicholas Briggs.

"This is one of those dream projects where I’ve spent months pinching myself. I’m covered in bruises," says David. "With two major international stars in place, and the legacy of this era of the TV show to live up to, we’ve worked our socks off to try and make some very special stories for this box set. Expect adventure, fun, scares… and some tears too."

Doctor Who - The Tenth Doctor Adventures will be released in May 2016 - exclusively on the Big Finish website. Each of the three titles are available to pre-order separately today for just £10.99 on CD or £8.99 to download.

All three stories are also available in the Doctor Who: The Tenth Doctor Adventures Volume 1- Limited Edition set. Limited to just 5,000 copies and available exclusively from bigfinish.com, and the lavish book-sized box set includes exclusive artwork, photography, articles and a one-hour documentary featuring interviews with the stars and production team. You can pre-order the set today at the special price of £30 on CD or £25 to download - offering a £5 discount against the standard price!!

A whole universe of further Doctor Who releases are also available from Big Finish, with upcoming productions featuring John Hurt’s War Doctor, Alex Kingston as River Song and Jemma Redgrave leading the forces of UNIT.

TECHNOPHOBIA - by Matt Fitton
When the Doctor and Donna visit London’s Technology Museum for a glimpse into the future, things don’t go to plan. The most brilliant IT brain in the country can’t use her computer. More worrying, the exhibits are attacking the visitors, while outside, people seem to be losing control of the technology that runs their lives.

Is it all down to simple human stupidity, or is something more sinister going on? Beneath the streets, the Koggnossenti are waiting. For all of London to fall prey to technophobia...

TIME REAVER - by Jenny T Colgan
Calibris. The spaceport planet where anything goes. Where anyone who doesn't want to be found can be lost, and where everything has its price. Where betentacled gangster Gully holds sway at the smugglers’ tavern, Vagabond’s Reach.

The alien Vacintians are trying to impose some order on the chaos. Soon the Doctor and Donna discover why. An illegal weapon is loose on the streets. A weapon that destroys lives… Slowly and agonisingly.

DEATH AND THE QUEEN - by James Goss
Donna Noble has never been lucky in love. So when, one day, her Prince does come, she is thrilled to have the wedding of all weddings to look forward to. Though the Doctor isn’t holding his breath for an invitation. And her future mother-in-law is certainly not amused.

But on the big day itself, Donna finds her castle under siege from the darkest of forces, marching at the head of a skeleton army. When it looks like even the Doctor can’t save the day, what will Queen Donna do to save her people from Death itself?

Doctor Who: The Tenth Doctor Adventures - Volume 1 is on sale in May 2016 priced £30.00 on CD and £25.00 digitally.

Doctor Who magazine looks ahead to the return of one of Doctor Who’s most popular monsters, in the forthcoming two-part adventure The Zygon Invasion & The Zygon Inversion - which also sees the return of fan-favourite Osgood...

"There was a certain amount of fan outrage when Death in Heaven saw the apparent death of Osgood," episode writer Peter Harness tells Doctor Who Magazine. Ingrid Oliver’s character was an instant hit on her first appearance in The Day of the Doctor. While there may not have been questions asked in Parliament about her death, there were definitely some furious tweets on the subject! But now she’s back…"

And, of course, the Zygons are back too…
"One thing I really had in my head when I was writing it was the Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and I think that’s why it originally had the title Invasion of the Zygons," Peter reveals. "I thought that if aliens wanted to fight us and they were fighting us from a position of weakness, they would look at how we fight wars. The Zygons are not only stealing our faces, but they’re stealing the ways in which we fight each other nowadays…"

Clara Oswald & 8th Doctor 5" Figures - FPI Exclusives

Character Options and Underground Toys have issued the details for two new 5" action figures exclusive to Forbidden Planet International:

CLARA OSWALD - on sale 31st October
Clara Oswald is one of the Doctor's most extraordinary companions. In order to help the Doctor she allowed the time winds to tear her into countless different iterations of herself living and dying all over time and space, like echoes. The Eleventh Doctor initially encountered two of the 'echo Claras' and was mystified by them.

He named her the 'Impossible Girl' and resolved to find her, eventually tracking down the 'real' Clara to modern day England. The Doctor finally discovered the truth about Clara on Trenzalore and was able to save her from the threat of the time winds. He brought her safely back to Earth where she began a job as a school teacher and she was present when he regenerated in into his twelfth incarnation. Since then they have gone on countless adventures together.

EIGHTH DOCTOR - on sale 30th November
"I love humans. Always seeing patterns in things that aren't there."

The Eighth Doctor was an effortlessly charming, romantic figure. He was unguarded about his background and equally candid about what the future held for people he came into contact with. It seems ironic that so much about this open Doctor remains a closed book...His first adventure took place in San Francisco at the turn of the Millennium with Dr Grace Holloway and Chang Lee in an epic battle with the Master.

Much later, after many adventures with many companions, the 8th Doctors fate is finally sealed during the Time War, as he attempts to rescue a pilot, Cass, whose ship was crashing into the planet Karn. When Cass realized that the Doctor was a Time Lord and her enemy, she refused his help and allowed the ship to crash.

Accessories
  • Sonic Screwdriver
  • Karn Chalice
  • Bandolier

THE WAR DOCTOR: ONLY THE MONSTROUS - COVER & DETAILS
Big Finish have issued the cover and details for three new Doctor Who audio plays featuring the War Doctor:

In December 2015, the Time War will rage and only one man can save us. John Hurt is the War Doctor!

John Hurt, the world-renowned star of film and television, is returning to the role of the War Doctor, in twelve full-cast Doctor Who audio plays.

The War Doctor was introduced for Doctor Who’s fiftieth anniversary, and played a key part in the record-breaking television special The Day of the Doctor, alongside David Tennant and Matt Smith’s Doctors. He is the secret incarnation of the Time Lord - but he has shunned the title ‘Doctor’ in order to fight in the Time War against the Daleks.

"I have been a huge fan of John since first seeing him in the repeats of I, Claudius in the 1980s and in his Oscar-nominated role as the eponymous The Elephant Man," says Big Finish executive producer Jason Haigh-Ellery. "Watching his performance in The Day of the Doctor I did find myself fantasising that some far off day we might have the chance to work with him on the audio adventures of Doctor Who and now two short years later it’s happened! John wove a fantastic character together from a great script by Steven Moffat. Now we have the chance to get to know that character more and hear John stretch in the role. We’re all in for a hell of a ride as the War Doctor engages in battle. But who are the greater threat - the Daleks or the Time Lords?"

The audio adventures of the War Doctor will be told over four box sets, each containing three linked hour-long episodes. The first box set is entitled Only the Monstrous, and is written and directed by Nicholas Briggs, whose many successes for Big Finish include the BBC Audio Award-winning masterpiece Doctor Who: Dark Eyes.

"The story of the Doctor who refuses to call himself the Doctor in order to do the unthinkable upon the ultimate battlefield - all of space and time - was irresistible to me," says Nicholas. "Such a deeply disturbing and engaging character created by the formidable talents of writer Steven Moffat and actor John Hurt. It’s such a privilege to be working on this."

The cast of the War Doctor also includes Jacqueline Pearce, who plays Time Lord Cardinal Ollistra - an arch manipulator who is waging the Time War against the Daleks. Jacqueline’s work includes The Avengers, Callan, Doctor Who: Death Comes to Time, Moondial and Russell T Davies’ Dark Season, and she is known to many science fiction fans for her role as Servalan in the cult classic Blake’s 7.

Only the Monstrous will be released in December 2015, and will be followed in February 2016 by the second volume, Infernal Devices, which is written by John Dorney, Phil Mulryne and Matt Fitton. Volumes Three and Four are currently in pre-production.

"What an utter privilege it is to work with such an iconic actor, playing such a brilliantly devised role," says producer David Richardson. "This is Doctor Who at its darkest - the era in which our hero casts aside his core values in order to try and save the galaxy in its most terrible hour. We promise bold and brilliant story-telling with gripping character drama, and epic and cinematic audio productions."

In addition to the War Doctor, November 2017 also sees a prequel box set to the saga, Doctor Who: The Eighth Doctor - The Time War, which will follow the early stages of the Time War from the Eighth Doctor’s perspective. Paul McGann stars, alongside characters first introduced in the War Doctor box sets.

Stories - all written by directed by Nicholas Brigss

  • The Thousand Worlds
  • The Heart of Battle

12th Doctor in Purple Shirt 5" Figure - FPI Exclusive

Character Options and Underground Toys have issued the details for new Twelfth Doctor 5" action figure variant - exclusive to Forbidden Planet International:

Doctor Who follows the adventures of the last Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey who simply goes by the name "The Doctor". At the end of the 2013 season, The Doctor regenerated into his new form and new personality, and is portrayed by legendary Scottish actor Peter Capaldi. This new incarnation, the Twelfth Doctor, is a spiky, brusque, pragmatic, yet funny, passionate and fearless character who travels with his companion, Clara Oswald. His adventures with (and without) Clara in the 2014 season lead him to make tough and ruthless decisions that make him question his character and the value of his travels.

This all new 5" tall figure showcases the new look the Doctor takes on after the regeneration, featuring his now signature dark blue Crombie-style coat with red lining, dark blue trousers, a long collared purple shirt buttoned to the top with no tie, and brogue boots. He also comes with his trusty Sonic Screwdriver.

The figure is on sale from 31st October exclusively from Forbidden Planet International priced £14.99.

New Spin-Off Show Announced!

The BBC have announced plans to launch a new Doctor Who spin-off set in Coal Hill School, read on for further details:

BBC Three today announces Class - a new 8 x 45 minute Doctor Who spin-off from the acclaimed YA author, Patrick Ness. Class is a YA series set in contemporary London. Incredible dangers are breaking through the walls of time and space, and with darkness coming, London is unprotected. With all the action, heart and adrenalin of the best YA fiction (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Hunger Games), this is Coal Hill School and Doctor Who like you’ve never seen them before.

Steven Moffat says, "No one has documented the dark and exhilarating world of the teenager like Patrick Ness, and now we're bringing his brilliant story-telling into Doctor Who. This is growing up in modern Britain - but with monsters!"

On his first television series, writer Patrick Ness says, "I'm astounded and thrilled to be entering the Doctor Who universe, which is as vast as time and space itself. There's so much room there for all kinds of amazing stories, and to work with Steven Moffat and Brian Minchin to find a place to tell one of my own has been an absolute joy. I can't wait for people to meet the heroes of Class, to meet the all-new villains and aliens, to remember that the horrors of the darkest corners of existence are just about on par with having to pass your A-Levels."

Damian Kavanagh, controller of BBC Three adds, "We’re excited to give Patrick Ness this opportunity to work with us at BBC Three and the Doctor Who family. Patrick understands young audiences and I’m delighted he will use his incredible skills as a storyteller to delight audiences on BBC Three. BBC Three will always innovate and offer opportunities for brilliant new talent."

Polly Hill, controller of BBC Drama Commissioning, adds, "I am thrilled that Patrick Ness is writing his first drama series for BBC Three. The combination of Patrick and Steven Moffat, is an exciting partnership that has created a brilliant Doctor Who spin-off for our BBC Three audience.”

Class is executive produced by Steven Moffatt, Patrick Ness and Brian Minchin. It was commissioned by Damian Kavanagh, controller of BBC Three and Polly Hill, controller of BBC Drama Commissioning.

Filming for Class will begin in Spring 2016 for broadcast later in the year on BBC Three.
