12th Doctor - Costume Revealed!

The BBC have today revealed the outfit of Peter's Capaldi's Doctor will be sporting in the next series of Doctor Who, read on for further details:

The Doctor has a new look as Peter Capaldi’s era officially begins.  In a picture released today by the BBC, Capaldi can be seen in the costume that will define his time as the Twelfth Time Lord in one of TV’s biggest roles.  Sporting a dark blue Crombie coat with red lining, dark blue trousers, a white shirt as well as black Dr. Marten shoes, the look was created by Doctor Who costume designer Howard Burden.

Commenting on his costume, Peter Capaldi said: "He's woven the future from the cloth of the past. Simple, stark, and back to basics. No frills, no scarf, no messing, just 100 per cent Rebel Time Lord."  While lead writer and executive producer Steven Moffat added: "New Doctor, new era, and of course new clothes. Monsters of the universe, the vacation is over - Capaldi is suited and booted and coming to get you!"

Filming for episode one of series 8 began earlier this month, after 10.2 million tuned-in on Christmas Day to get their first much-anticipated glimpse of Capaldi’s Doctor.  Charlotte Moore, controller of BBC One, commented: "Peter Capaldi's Doctor is officially recorded in history today with the unveiling of his new costume.  It's sharp, smart and stylish - The Twelfth Time Lord means business."

Series eight of Doctor Who is currently being filmed and will debut this Autumn on BBC One and BBC One HD. In other news: At the National Television Awards last week, Matt Smith won the award for Best Actor while Doctor Who itself won the Best Drama award.

An Adventure in Space and Time Soundtrack - Cover & Details

Silva Screen have revealed the cover and details of the soundtrack to the docudrama An Adventure in Space and Time, read on for further details:

Mark Gatiss’ (League of Gentlemen, Sherlock) highly acclaimed TV docudrama about the genesis of the Doctor Who TV series delighted die-hard fans and casual viewers on its BBC Two debut and swiftly received a second showing at Christmas. Film and TV composer Edmund Butt has had an extensive career as a writer, performer and producer winning Royal Television Awards for his score to Yellowstone and Garrow’s Law. Film credits include The Dark and 24 Hours in London alongside TV work that includes Mistresses, Ashes to Ashes and The Suspicions of Mr. Whicher. The booklet for this release is reversible to allow the display of a separate cover featuring alternative promotional material.

Writer Mark Gatiss said "Making Adventure was a wonderful experience. The whole team were absolutely dedicated to the project, going the extra mile (or parsec) to create that smoggy early '60s world where so much seemed (and was) suddenly possible. And none more so than Edmund Butt whose gorgeous score is one of the highlights of the film. I’ve been completely overwhelmed by the response to the film. It was a very special project from the outset and I know Ed’s soundtrack will continue to thrill and delight for, well, the rest of space and time…"

Character Options and Underground Toys have revealed the second wave of Doctor Who SFX Dalek Figures exclusive to Forbidden Planet, read on for further details:

The Daleks were created by the Kaled scientist, Davros as travel machines. He had deduced that the years of radiation and chemical poisoning from an ongoing war would lead his race to mutate into immobile organisms. The Dalek travel machines would house these creatures and allow the Kaleds to survive. However, in the course of his experiments, Davros deliberately removed what he considered to be debilitating emotions from the mutants and a force of evil was spawned! The Daleks were born without any ability to feel compassion or pity and were motivated only by hate, fear and an implacable belief that they were the superior creatures in the Universe.

Recreate scenes from the Doctor's adventures with these highly detailed 5" poseable Dalek action figures. This assortment features the following four Daleks, modelled accurately on some of the most famous Daleks from past episodes: The Chase Guard Dalek, Dead Planet Dalek, Genesis and Remembrance Dalek.

Tales of Trenzalore - Cover & Details

BBC Books have revealed the cover and details of a new Doctor Who e-book chronicling the adventures the Doctor had while on Trenzalore during the recent Christmas special The Time of the Doctor, read on for further details:

TALES OF TRENZALORE
As it had been foretold, the armies of the Universe gathered at Trenzalore. Only one thing stood between the planet and destruction - the Doctor. For nine hundred years, he defended the planet, and the tiny town of Christmas, against the forces that would destroy it.

He never knew how long he could keep the peace. He never knew what creatures would emerge from the snowy night to threaten him next. He knew only that at the end he would die on Trenzalore.

Some of what happened during those terrible years is well documented. But most of it remains shrouded in mystery and darkness. Until now.

This is a glimpse of just some of the terrors the people faced, the monstrous threats the Doctor defeated. These are the tales of the monsters who found themselves afraid - and of the one man who was not.

Stories included:
Let it Snow - by Justin Richards
An Apple a Day - by George Mann
Strangers in the Outland - by Paul Finch
The Dreaming - by Mark Morris

Doctor Who: Tales of Trenzalore will be released online to digital media outlets on 27th February priced £2.49 per download.

Series 8 - Latest News

A round-up of the latest news concerning the next series of Doctor Who:

SERIES SPLIT REAFFIRMED
Moffat confirmed last year the series eight will not be split, unlike the previous two, and that it will become the standard format of broadcast from now on. He said: "We’re not going to do splits, and the same format will repeat exactly the following year like that. So it will be the traditional form."

CAPALDI TO BE A 'DANGEROUS' DOCTOR
Moffat has explained why the next Doctor is set be be a more "dangerous and difficult one" compared to previous ones from the new series.

"There would be little point in making as radical a change as we’ve made unless you’re going to go quite different with the Doctor," he says, "The last two Doctors have been brilliant, and have been your ‘good boyfriend’ Doctors. But the Doctor isn’t always like that. There is the sort of Tom Baker, Christopher Eccleston end of the spectrum, where he is mad and dangerous and difficult."

"I think it was time for the show to flip around a bit. The new version of the show is quite old now. It’s very old… We need the kick-up-the-arse Doctor, in a way, to frighten you and make you think, it’s a different show again.”

FIRST SET OF WRITERS CONFIRMED
The writers for the next series of Doctor Who have been announced. Along with Moffat penning as lead writer is Mark Gatiss (The Unquiet Dead, Cold War, The Crimson Horror) Neil Cross (Dinosaurs on a Spaceship, The Power of Three), Gareth Roberts (The Shakespeare Code, The Lodger, Closing Time) and Phil Ford (The Waters of Mars, Dreamland), the latter two of which also wrote numerous stories for The Sarah Jane Adventures. While Moffat has written the series's opening story, Ford has penned the second story, which details of other episodes yet to be revealed.

RIVER SONG FOR SERIES 8?
Moffat has stated that his is uncertain for River Song to appear in the next series of Doctor Who alongside Capaldi's Doctor.

He said "It’s always down to whether there’s a good story. My immediate instinct was that story’s probably done. Not that we saw all of it, but I never thought we should see all of it. I’m slightly tempted, because I imagine Peter Capaldi and Alex Kingston would be absolutely hilarious together…"

He adds "She could certainly have met other Doctors. So there’s nothing stopping us… but is there anything new we can do? Or is the new thing that Peter Capaldi and Alex Kingston would be very sexy together? Is that enough? We’ve always had fun with the fact that they don’t look like a couple."

"Peter Capaldi and Alex Kingston would look like a couple - that’s the thing. Whereas I thought Matt and Alex were gorgeous together, but it looked slightly strange, because he was so much younger. Alex is just great fun to have on the show. It’s when you want to throw the Doctor a bit, because what River does so well is to make him a bit on the back foot and a bit flustered."

Series eight of Doctor Who has recently began filming and is set to premiere is Autumn on BBC One and BBC One HD.

Series 8 - Filming Begins

Filming for the next series of Doctor Who, featuring the new Doctor as played by Peter Capaldi, has begun today, the BBC have issued the following press release:

The new Doctor, Peter Capaldi, stepped on set today for his first full day of filming as production begins on series 8 of the hit BBC show.

10.2 million tuned-in on Christmas Day to get their first glimpse of Capaldi in one of TV’s most iconic roles in the festive special The Time of the Doctor, which saw Matt Smith hang-up his bow tie after 4 years in the role.

Capaldi was revealed as the Doctor in a live BBC One show in August, after months of speculation about the next Doctor’s identity. Arriving on set in Cardiff to begin filming, Peter Capaldi said: "New job, first day, slightly nervous. Just like the Doctor, I'm emerging from the Tardis into a whole other world."

Steven Moffat, lead writer and executive producer, added: "First the eyebrows! Then, at Christmas, the face! Coming soon, the whole Doctor. In the Cardiff studios, the Capaldi era begins."

Accompanying the Doctor on his adventures will be companion Clara Oswald, played by Jenna Coleman. The first episode of series 8 has been written by Steven Moffat with the second episode penned by Phil Ford. These are the first episodes that Peter will shoot and are directed by Ben Wheatley.

Ben Stephenson, controller of drama commissioning, said: "Excitement and anticipation fills the air as Peter Capaldi’s Doctor takes control of the Tardis for the very first time today. It’s going to be one hell of a ride and I can't wait for the journey to start."

Charlotte Moore, controller BBC One, commented: "A new year, a new face, a new Doctor! 2014 has arrived and it's Peter Capaldi's time so let the adventures begin!"
