Doctor Who Coming to Minecraft

BBC Worldwide have recently partners with Microsoft Studios and Mojang and have announced that Doctor Who will be coming to Minecraft on X-Box 360 Edition, read on for further details:

Doctor Who is set to become “Blocktor Who” when characters from the series arrive on the X-Box 360 edition of Minecraft in September.

Available on over 84 million Xbox devices worldwide, a deal between BBC Worldwide and developers Microsoft Studios and Mojang will give Minecraft players access to a range of Doctor Who assets, allowing them to change their avatar to resemble their favourite characters from the show.

The first pack - priced at just $2.99/£1.99/€2.85/$2.95AUS - will include a character inspired by the Twelfth Doctor, plus five other Doctors, each of their on-screen companions and some of the Doctor’s most well known adversaries including his arch-nemeses, the Daleks.

The deal will bring more packs as time goes on, introducing many of the most recognisable characters from the past 50 years of Doctor Who. Each skin pack will feature at least six Doctors and will be released regularly following the broadcast episodes in Series 8.

Rikesh Desai, digital entertainment and games director at BBC Worldwide UK says "We’re constantly looking for new and innovative ways to bring Doctor Who content to our loyal fans. Working collaboratively with Microsoft, we’ve created an exciting new product which will allow Doctor Who fans to create their own brand new adventures in the heart of the iconic world of Minecraft."

Minecraft is one of the fastest selling X-Box game of all time with over 13 million sales to date. The deal to bring Doctor Who to Minecraft builds on BBC Worldwide’s successful partnership with Microsoft, which has seen Microsoft publish Forza racing games complete with Top Gear themed challenges and features.

Minecraft is a game about breaking and placing blocks. At first, people built structures to protect against nocturnal monsters, but as the game grew, players worked together to create wonderful, imaginative things. It can also be about adventuring with friends or watching the sun rise over a blocky ocean. It’s pretty. Brave players battle terrible things in The Nether, which is more scary than pretty. You can also visit a land of mushrooms if it sounds more like your cup of tea.

The first Doctor Who Minecraft pack will be on sale this September priced £1.99 per download on X-Box 360.

Doctor Who Magazine - Issue 477

The cover and details of the next edition of Doctor Who magazine:

In a bumper-sized 100-page issue, DWM catches up on set with the Peter Capaldi -  the new Doctor Who.

Doctor Who magazine asked Peter how he has gone about making the part of the Doctor his own…

"Well," says Peter, "you begin with yourself. You begin with those elements of yourself that you feel would be at home in the role. There’s an old actors’ adage that you don’t become the role, the role becomes you. It’s trying to find those parts of you that will fit with the Doctor, and understand those bits that don’t come so naturally to you, that you have to fabricate. I kept looking for people in my life who I thought had elements of the Doctor about them, and were inspirational in some ways. I composed a list of those…"

"Also, it’s recognising what’s been written," Peter continues. "My Doctor is written slightly differently from some of the other Doctors, and the Doctor changes quite dramatically from episode to episode. Some demand more of your comedy chops, graver or more serious episodes demand a more sombre creature. All these variations have to live in the same body, in the same face. Putting all that together is tricky…"

World Tour - Begins Today in Cardiff

In promotion of the highly anticipated eighth series, the Doctor Who world tour begun today in the show's hometown of Cardiff, read on for further details:

The Doctor Who World Tour began in Cardiff, the home of Doctor Who, earlier today
The day started with a photo shoot at Cardiff Castle with Peter Capaldi looking relaxed in a casual blue suit and Jenna Coleman stunning in a  full-length red dress. The dramatic backdrop of the Norman castle was given a Doctor Who twist as the Tardis had materialised on top of the ancient building, leading many of the photographers to joke that they hadn’t known the Doctor would be using his time machine for the world tour!

After leaving the castle the team made the short trip to St. David’s Hall where thousands of people had lined the way to the venue. Doctor Who’s lead writer and executive producer, Steven Moffat and Samuel Anderson who plays Danny Pink in the new series, joined Peter and Jenna and all four of them signed autographs and chatted to fans as they made their way to the premiere. It was great to see so many people wishing the team well and there was a huge sense of excitement about the new Doctor and Deep Breath - the series’ opening episode that’s on BBC One on 23rd August.

The team finally made it to St. David’s Hall and after the world premiere of Deep Breath, Jason Mohammad hosted a Question and Answer session before the team left the Welsh capital, with Peter Capaldi saying, "World Tour is well and truly underway. Farewell Cardiff… Next stop London. Hope to see you on tour… or somewhere soon in time and space."

Thanks again to everyone who joined the team in Cardiff and helped make the day so special!

The tour will continue in London today. In other news: Steven Moffat has confirmed that filming for the Doctor Who 2014 Christmas special will begin straight after the tour, with Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman resuming their roles as the Doctor and Clara Oswald.
