It’s an interesting look!"

An Adventure in Space and Time - Casting Announced

The first news of casting for the one-off BBC Two drama An Adventure in Space and Time - documenting the origins of Doctor Who - have been announced, read on for further details:

As part of the BBC’s blockbuster celebrations to mark the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who, David Bradley (Harry Potter) is set to play the first ever Doctor, the iconic William Hartnell in the BBC Two drama An Adventure in Space and Time

But this isn’t his first foray into the world of Doctor Who… In 2012 David Bradley won plaudits playing the villainous Solomon in Dinosaurs on a Spaceship and in 2010 he voiced one of the Shansheeth in The Sarah Jane Adventures: Death of the Doctor - a two-part story that featured Matt Smith as the Time Lord. He’s also well-known around the world for his portrayal of Argus Filch in the Harry Potter movies as well as appearances in blockbusters like Captain America: The First Avenger and TV shows ranging from The Professionals to Game of Thrones.

An Adventure in Space and Time will tell the story of the genesis of Doctor Who - first aired on 23rd November 1963 - and the many personalities involved.  The BBC’s Head of Drama Sydney Newman, credited with the creation of the show, will be portrayed by Brian Cox (The Bourne Supremacy, The Bourne Identity) and the producer, Verity Lambert, by Call the Midwife star Jessica Raine. The director of the first ever episode, An Unearthly Child, Waris Hussein, will be played by Sacha Dhawan (History Boys, Last Tango In Halifax).

Commenting on his upcoming role, David Bradley, said: “I’m absolutely thrilled.  I first heard about this role from Mark [Gatiss] while watching the Diamond Jubilee flotilla from the roof of the National Theatre.  When he asked if I would be interested, I almost bit his hand off!  Mark has written such a wonderful script not only about the birth of a cultural phenomenon, but a moment in television...

The one-off drama An Adventure in Space and Time will air sometime around the 50th anniversary date of Doctor Who this autumn on BBC Two.

Character Options Announce New Scale Series 7 Figures

Producer of Doctor Who action figures and toys Character Options have announced that all new series Doctor Who action figures are to be released in a new scale of 3.75", read on for further details:

In a golden year for Doctor Who, Character Options unveils a brand new scale to its figure collection
Doctor Who celebrates the 50th anniversary of the brand in 2013, Character Options commemorates with a new era for its action figures series.

After huge popular demand from fans, 2013 will see the launch of a range of new series 3¾ inch figures and playsets. The new collection will succeed the incredibly successful 5 inch figures portraying both characters and storylines from the new series including the Eleventh Doctor, his new companion Clara as well as many of the foes he has met over the past 50 years.

The new collection is to be released in June and will be unveiled at London Toy Fair on 22nd-24th January 2013. Jon Diver, Managing Director of Character Options, commented: “With this being a very special year for the Doctor, we wanted to bring something brand new to the fans and our research has shown that the new 3 ¾” size is what the fans want. We appeal to both serious collectors and children and this new smaller figure allows the younger generation to collect their treasured Doctor Who figures more affordably, while presenting a brand new opportunity for adult fans to increase their portfolios.”

To complement the figure series, to-scale playsets will also be available. The Weeping Angel set will include the iconic but eerie New York backdrop from The Angels Take Manhatten together with exclusive cherub accessories. Another of the Doctor’s most iconic enemies will be encountered in the Dalek Playset set in a battle-scarred London.

To travel from one adventure to another, no new series would be complete without a Tardis. The new 3 ¾” scaled Spin and Fly Tardis has motion-activated interactive sound effects to bring the action to life.

Finally, fans will join in with the Doctor’s adventures with a new range of Heritage Sonic Screwdrivers, depicting the tools of past incarnations of the Doctor. Appealing to collectors and kids alike, choose from the Third, Fourth or Tenth Doctor’s Screwdriver or River Song’s Future Sonic, each highly detailed.

Character will also launch new construction figures and playsets in the Doctor Who Character Building range and news of new collections for late autumn will be released soon.

The new wave of Doctor Who action figures based on characters from the forthcoming second part of the seventh series is to be released in June.
