The BBC have announced the new executive producer of Doctor Who, who will work alongside Steven Moffat in all future plans of the show, read on for further details:
BBC Cymru Wales has announced that Brian Minchin is to be the new executive producer of Doctor Who, alongside showrunner Steven Moffat.
Brian Minchin is an executive producer in BBC Wales drama, currently working on The Game, a new Cold War spy thriller from Toby Whithouse for BBC One, and Wizards vs Aliens, Russell T Davies’ hit show for CBBC. He has also worked as BBC executive producer on Dirk Gently and Being Human.
Brian produced the RTS award-winning and BAFTA nominated series The Sarah Jane Adventures, as well as the UK sections of Torchwood: Miracle Day and was assistant producer on Torchwood: Children of Earth.
Brian, who grew up in Aberystwyth, joined the department in Cardiff in 2005 as a script editor working on BBC One Wales drama Belonging, before moving on to network dramas Doctor Who and Torchwood in the same role.
Brian says: “I’m thrilled and excited to be joining Steven Moffat on a show that has meant so much to me over the years. I’ve watched in awe as Steven has taken Doctor Who to wild and imaginative places and I can’t wait to get started on many more adventures with the Doctor.”
Faith Penhale, head of drama Wales, says: “I’ve no doubt Doctor Who will enjoy a very exciting time with Brian at the helm working alongside Steven. Since joining BBC Wales in 2005, he’s proved he has a fantastic eye for story and a sharp awareness of what makes a drama like Doctor Who unmissable.”
Steven Moffat, lead writer and executive producer, adds: “When I first took over Doctor Who, Brian was there as script editor, and in the most difficult time of a new Doctor and a new era, was completely brilliant. We lost him to producing The Sarah Jane Adventures at the end of our first run. Rising talent keeps rising, is how I comforted myself back then - but now I am beyond happy that Brian has risen all the way back to Doctor Who, in his new role of executive producer. I look forward to getting hopelessly lost in space and time with him.”
Minchin's new roll as executive producer is assumed to begin with the 2013 Christmas special. Doctor Who continues this Saturday in The Crimson Horror at 6:30pm on BBC One and BBC One HD.

Character Options is launching a new range of 3.75-inch Doctor Who figures to celebrate to the 50th anniversary show, and SFX has your first look at the new, upcoming Ice Warrior figure.
“After huge popular demand from fans, 2013 will see the launch of a range of new series 3¾ inch figures and playsets. The new collection will succeed the incredibly successful 5-inch figures portraying both characters and storylines from the new series including The Eleventh Doctor, his new companion Clara as well as many of the foes he has met over the past 50 years,” says Character Options brand manager Mark Hunt.
He adds: “We also have some very special 50th Anniversary product for later in the year… but that is top secret!”
Describing why Character Options has begun the new range with its new size, Hunt says, “This is the 50th anniversary year of Doctor Who and we wanted to create something that was new for the brand and refresh our product offering, and create some demand amongst both avid collectors, fans and children. Our market research showed that many children today are collecting smaller figures and boys action figures across the market are moving to this size.
“The new size also allows us to bring a more affordable price point that we would not be able to at this time with a 5-inch figure. This again is reacting to the market conditions and makes the figures more accessible to more fans. Again in such a special year it was important that we cater for as many as possible.”
These highly detailed, realistic and poseable 3.75 action figures include characters from Doctor Who series seven including Daleks, Weeping Angels, Cybermen armies, and, of course, the Ice Warriors!
The figure is will be on sale next month along with a a range of new Doctor Who figures from series seven, priced £6.99 each, more details coming soon.

To Adric and Nyssa the name means very little, but to the Doctor’s companion Tegan he is a legend. Escape artist extraordinaire, Houdini’s reputation will last for decades.
But how come Harry knows so much about Tegan herself? Is it really just guesswork, as he says? Is Harry right to be concerned about the fairground’s fortune teller, who claims to have supernatural skills? Both he and the Doctor suspect an alien influence they know of old. What neither the Doctor nor his friends realise is that, somewhere in the shadows, a far more sinister and familiar presence is lying in wait for them…

The cover and details of this month's edition of Doctor Who magazine:
The new issue of Doctor Who Magazine features full previews of next few episodes to hit your screens over the next few weeks - and writer Mark Gatiss tells DWM how excited he was to bring back one of Doctor’s Who’s iconic monsters in Cold War:
"The Ice Warriors are back where they belong and I’m absolutely thrilled! Whilst absolutely respecting the source, the source has huge gaps in which you can invent. I was talking to a couple of members of the crew, and they had no idea the Ice Warriors were an old monster. It’s very powerful. You don’t need to know they first appeared in the '60s."
"thought, 'Why don’t we put the Ice Warriors on a sub?'" Mark continues. "And suddenly it all clicked! The submarine set is amazing. Fantastic! The moment it’s all lit and full of steam, it’s incredibly believable."

The BBC have today revealed that an old enemy is to return in the Doctor Who 50th anniversary special, read on for further details:
We’re delighted to confirm that the Zygons are returning to Doctor Who for the show’s 50th anniversary special.
Aside from flashbacks these malevolent shape-shifters have only appeared once before, threatening Earth in the Fourth Doctor adventure, Terror of the Zygons. Despite the fact that their solitary outing was over thirty years ago they remain a popular old enemy and in the 2010 episode, The Pandorica Opens, they were amongst the massed aliens said to be gathering above Stonehenge. Later, in The Power of Three, we learnt that Zygons had one of their ships under the Savoy Hotel in 1890 and apparently replaced half the staff with imposters! But this time they really are back…
We’ve already confirmed that in the anniversary special Matt Smith and Jenna-Louise Coleman will be joined by the returning David Tennant and Billie Piper. Screen legend John Hurt is also in the cast and earlier today we revealed that Joanna Page (Gavin & Stacey, The Syndicate) would also be appearing in this eagerly anticipated adventure.
Filming for the 50th anniversary special has already begun and is due to air later this year. In other news: Steven Moffat has been nominated by Hugo for Best Dramatic Presentation, Short Form for his Doctor Who stories Asylum of the Daleks, The Angels Take Manhattan and The Snowmen. The results will be announced on 1st September. Doctor Who continues this week in The Rings of Akhaten; Saturday - 6:15pm, BBC One and BBC One HD.
