The cover and details of this month's edition of Doctor Who magazine:
In the new issue of Doctor Who magazine, as speculation mounts about the identity of the next Doctor, the show’s head writer and executive producer Steven Moffat writes exclusively for DWM about casting Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor, and the times they’ve shared together during the production of the series.
"These have been the maddest few years of my writing career - so many ridiculous adventures, so many things I thought I’d never do - and I could not have shared them with a kinder, more considerate, more supportive friend than the man I completely refuse to call Smithers.’
Also this issue:
HOW MANY DOCTORS?
If you thought there just eleven Doctors, think again! And we’re not just referring to the surprise appearance of John Hurt at the end of The Name of the Doctor. Discover the Doctor’s forgotten incarnations in the Sixty-Seven Doctors!
THE CAPTAIN’S BACK!
He fought at the Third Doctor’s side as UNIT’s Captain Mike Yates, confronting Autons, battling Daleks, and resisting the control of mad computers… DWM talks exclusively to Richard Franklin about his relationship with his alter ego.
CHOC’S AWAY!
Clara makes her comic strip début in the first part of a brand new adventure, A Wing and a Prayer, written by Scott Gray with art by Mike Collins. When a sandstorm forces the Tardis down in the Iraqi desert in 1930, Clara is overjoyed to meet the legendary Amy Johnson, currently engaged in her bid to become the first woman to fly across the world. But something else is hiding in desert sands. Something small and sinister…
CHANGING HISTORY
The Sixth Doctor uncovers a plot by the Cybermen to change their own history by using Halley’s comet to destroy the Earth, in Attack of the Cybermen. The Fact of Fiction places this serial from 1985 under the microscope, revealing more facts about the story than a Cyberman can shake a clenched silver fist at. Excellent!

Will our Time Team chums survive the tension of the nail-biting Tenth Doctor adventure, 42? Or will it just be one big meltdown?
DON’T INTERRUPT!
There’s nothing more annoying than having your viewing of a brand new episode of Doctor Who disturbed by a phone call or a knock at the door. But, as Jacqueline Rayner relates in this issue’s Relative Dimensions, with a husband and two children, it’s not always easy to maintain that perfect peace and calm, even for just 45 minutes…
YUM, YUM
Wotcha! is full of Goodies this issue as the mysterious white one shines a light on some of Doctor Who’s more notable, enduring and often quoted misconceptions - including that there was an episode featuring a giant kitten that climbed up the Post Office Tower! 12th Doctor & Series 8 - New Insider Details
Radio Times have confirmed that the Twelfth Doctor is to be announced this Autumn, prior to filming of the 2013 Doctor Who Christmas special, read on for further details:
BBC insiders have told RadioTimes.com that filming on the Christmas special - to be followed by the full series - will not take place until the autumn - probably August, or even September.
According to sources the identity of the Twelfth Doctor is almost certain to be announced just prior to filming, which means that it is very likely that the new incarnation of the Time Lord will not be unveiled until late summer.
Initially the BBC had hoped to begin filming the Christmas special earlier, with some sources suggesting July as a potential date.
“Suffice to say we are completely on track” said a spokeswoman.
Doctor Who returns to BBC One and BBC One HD later this year in the show's 50th anniversary special, before the new Doctor is unveiled in the annual Christmas special.

Royal Visit to the Tardis Announced
It has been announced that the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall will be visiting the BBC's Cymru Wales studios in Cardiff, read on for further details:
The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall will be paying a visit to the Tardis in the first week of July.
Every year Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall visit projects across Wales during what is known as Wales Week. These visits help to promote the region, its charities and its products and give Their Royal Highnesses a chance to meet local people and see first-hand the work they’re involved with.
A highlight of ‘Wales Week’ this year will be a visit by Their Royal Highnesses to the home of Doctor Who - BBC Cymru Wales’ Roath Lock Studios in Cardiff - to mark the programme’s 50th anniversary. The show makes extensive use of locations across Wales but all studio filming is done at Roath Lock and the Tardis interior has been housed there since the Christmas special, The Snowmen. During this visit the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall will meet Matt Smith (the Doctor) and Jenna Coleman (Clara) as well as some of the Time Lord’s most famous adversaries.
A Clarence House spokesman said: "The Prince and The Duchess always enjoy their annual visit to Wales and this year they are looking forward to a varied programme of engagements including everything from Dylan Thomas’s Boat House to Doctor Who’s Tardis! Their Royal Highnesses are also keen to highlight the vital work being done across Wales by some of the charities they are involved with."
It will be the second royal encounter for Doctor Who this year after Jenna Coleman was presented to Her Majesty The Queen when a major new extension of the BBC’s Broadcasting House was officially opened earlier this month.

12th Doctor - BBC Quashes Rumours
The BBC have quashed the recent rumours circulating online that an announcement on the casting of the Twelfth Doctor is due imminently, read on for further details:
The rumours, which began via Science Fiction magazine; Starburst stated:
"Sources have indicated that a Sunday newspaper is intending to scoop the BBC by announcing the name of the new Doctor this weekend. And in order to pre-empt the scoop, the BBC look set to announce the name tomorrow evening, just a single short week since the announcement of Matt Smith’s departure, and hardly time enough for that bombshell of a news story to sink in."
"Starburst's sources have now come up with three names, apparently the front-runners in the bidding to be the new Doctor. Whether it's one of these three that has in fact been chosen to play the part, we cannot be sure. We can't really be sure that these three are in the running at all - but that's what we've been told! One thing that's guaranteed, however, is that this new "information" will get people talking!"
"The three names are: Domhnall Gleeson, Daniel Kaluuya, and Dominic Cooper."
BBC publicist, Jenni Pain, tweeted the following this morning denying the rumours:
"For all those wondering, there is no #doctorwho announcement planned today"
This was then further echoed by the @BBCOne Twitter channel:
"@bbcdoctorwho fans, contrary to rumours there is no #DoctorWho casting announcement today."
Also via Twitter, Doctor Who DVD director, Ed Stradling appeared to have official word from Steven Moffat on the rumours:
"Steven Moffat says this morning "I haven't a clue who it is, we've barely started." So no #doctorwho announcement this evening I fear!"
Inspite of what the BBC and various sources have claimed, the actor of the Twelfth Doctor is yet to be truly revealed. Doctor Who returns this Autumn with the show's 50th anniversary special with current Doctor Matt Smith to BBC One and BBC One HD.

12th Doctor & Series 8 - Latest Rumours
The new Doctor could be handed the keys to the Tardis as early as next month, BBC sources have confirmed - with insiders suggesting Matt Smith’s replacement needs to be announced before the Doctor Who Christmas special begins filming next month.
It would be virtually impossible to keep the identity of the new doctor a secret even if the entire set went into lockdown during filming of the Christmas special, a BBC source told RadioTimes.com.
“The search has begun in earnest and is active now,” the source said, adding that the BBC has not ruled out hiring a woman to replace Matt Smith.
Also in the rumours circle, speculations have occurred to the structure of the next full series of Doctor Who, read on further details:
Series 8, the 12th Doctor’s debut series, will air in August of 2014 and be an uninterrupted run.
The mail, sent [last] Friday, told of plans to air 12 new episodes from August 2014. Crucially, it said: “This will give the new Doctor a chance to develop with the audience.
The new series, expected to be 12 episodes long, begins filming in the autumn and broadcast, with a thirteenth episode acting as the Christmas special for the year to be the final.
A BBC source also moved to squash speculation that showrunner Steven Moffat could also be calling it a day, insisting that he has signed up for at least another year.
All these theories and claims are currently all rumours and not to be taken as facts unless the BBC make such official claim. Doctor Who returns to BBC One and BBC One HD this Autumn with the show's 50th anniversary special.

Matt Smith to Leave Doctor Who
It has today been announced that Matt Smith is to leave the role of the Doctor in Doctor Who later this year, read on for further details:
The BBC is today announcing that Matt Smith is to leave Doctor Who after four incredible years on the hit BBC One show. Matt first stepped into the Tardis in 2010 and will leave the role at the end of this year after starring in the unmissable 50th Anniversary in November and regenerating in the Christmas special. During his time as the Doctor, Matt has reached over 30 million unique UK viewers and his incarnation has seen the show go truly global. He was also the first actor to be nominated for a BAFTA in the role.
Matt quickly won over fans to be voted Best Actor by readers of Doctor Who magazine for the 2010 season. He also received a nod for his first series at the National Television Awards, before winning the Most Popular Male Drama Performance award in 2012.
Matt has played one of the biggest roles in TV with over 77 million fans in the UK, USA and Australia alone!
Matt Smith says: "Doctor Who has been the most brilliant experience for me as an actor and a bloke, and that largely is down to the cast, crew and fans of the show. I'm incredibly grateful to all the cast and crew who work tirelessly every day, to realise all the elements of the show and deliver Doctor Who to the audience. Many of them have become good friends and I'm incredibly proud of what we have achieved over the last four years."
"Having Steven Moffat as show runner write such varied, funny, mind bending and brilliant scripts has been one of the greatest and most rewarding challenges of my career. It's been a privilege and a treat to work with Steven, he's a good friend and will continue to shape a brilliant world for the Doctor."
"The fans of Doctor Who around the world are unlike any other; they dress up, shout louder, know more about the history of the show (and speculate more about the future of the show) in a way that I've never seen before, your dedication is truly remarkable. Thank you so very much for supporting my incarnation of the Time Lord, number Eleven, who I might add is not done yet, I'm back for the 50th anniversary and the Christmas special!"
"It's been an honour to play this part, to follow the legacy of brilliant actors, and helm the Tardis for a spell with 'the ginger, the nose and the impossible one'. But when ya gotta go, ya gotta go and Trenzalore calls. Thank you guys. Matt."
Steven Moffat, lead writer and executive producer, says : "Every day, on every episode, in every set of rushes, Matt Smith surprised me: the way he'd turn a line, or spin on his heels, or make something funny, or out of nowhere make me cry, I just never knew what was coming next. The Doctor can be clown and hero, often at the same time, and Matt rose to both challenges magnificently. And even better than that, given the pressures of this extraordinary show, he is one of the nicest and hardest-working people I have ever had the privilege of knowing. Whatever we threw at him - sometimes literally - his behaviour was always worthy of the Doctor."
"But great actors always know when it's time for the curtain call, so this Christmas prepare for your hearts to break, as we say goodbye to number Eleven. Thank you Matt - bow ties were never cooler."
"Of course, this isn't the end of the story, because now the search begins. Somewhere out there right now - all unknowing, just going about their business - is someone who's about to become the Doctor. A life is going to change, and Doctor Who will be born all over again! After 50 years, that's still so exciting!"
Having starred alongside three different companions, Amy Pond (Karen Gillan), Rory Williams (Arthur Darvill) and most recently Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman), Matt's Doctor has fought Daleks and Cybermen, as well as Weeping Angels in New York. Regularly heard shouting 'run' and 'Geronimo', through Matt's Doctor fans have been introduced to a new culinary combination - fish fingers and custard!
Matt's spectacular exit is yet to be revealed and will be kept tightly under wraps. He will return to BBC One screens in the unmissable 50th anniversary episode on Saturday 23rd November 2013.
Doctor Who will return later this year to BBC One and BBC One HD. Series eight will be led by a new actor while current companion Jenna Louise Coleman is said to continue the role of Clara Oswald through into the next series.
