Doctor Who: New Tardis Interior Fully Unveiled!

The BBC have unveiled the new Tardis interior design via the promotional image above. It is due to debut in the Doctor Who Christmas special The Snowmen, read on for further details:

Apart from a tantalising glimpse released previously, very little has emerged about the revamp until now. Designed by Doctor Who’s production designer Michael Pickwoad, this new image reveals the console room and what will become the new home to the Doctor and Clara as they travel the cosmos in 2013.

Back on Earth, this is the first Tardis set to be housed in the BBC’s Roath Lock Studios in Cardiff, and the first to be designed by Michael Pickwoad. When the Doctor Who team left their old home at Upper Boat, the opportunity arose to create a new Tardis and as lead writer and executive producer Steven Moffat explained, "When you have a genius designer like Michael Pickwoad, and an opportunity like the Tardis, you’d be mad not to bring the two together." The new interior also received the approval of Matt Smith - the Doctor himself - who said that it was "fantastic" and admitted he couldn’t wait for people to see it "fully" on Christmas Day.

Doctor Who: The Snowmen broadcasts on Christmas Day at 5:15pm on BBC One and BBC One HD.

Doctor Who: Vastra Investigates - The Snowmen Prequel

A new mini episode of Doctor Who that acts as a prequel to the upcoming Christmas special The Snowmen - titled Vastra Investigates -  has been released, you can watch it above. Doctor Who: The Snowmen broadcasts Christmas Day at 5:15pm on BBC One and BBC One HD.

New Theme Tune & Title Sequence Announced!

The BBC have confirmed that this year's Doctor Who Christmas special will receive a new title squence and theme tune, read on for further details:

Something cold, something new… Not only will we be treated to a new Tardis during The Snowmen but the episode will premiere a revamped theme tune and opening title sequence.

We can’t give too much away about the new-look titles except to say they are wonderfully dramatic and striking, with a couple of unexpected touches. In short, they’re a perfect way to welcome back the Doctor!

And fans of the famous Doctor Who theme tune needn’t worry… This new arrangement remains true to the original, written by Ron Grainer back in 1963, but on Christmas Day you’ll hear it as it’s never sounded before. This latest version is more thrilling and powerful but retains that slightly scary quality that remains stirring no matter how many times you catch it.

Doctor Who: The Snowmen will broadcast Christmas Day at 5:15pm on BBC One and BBC One HD.

New Radio Times Doctor Who Themed Cover

This week's Radio Times features (like every Christmas) a Doctor Who themed cover, read on for further details:

People actually say that Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without a Doctor Who special . So don’t fret, your festivities will be complete once more with a seasonal one-off written by Steven Moffat. Richard E Grant and Tom Ward (who plays pathologist Harry in Silent Witness) guest-star in a story that features Jenna-Louise Coleman joining the Doctor properly (after a brief appearance in the previous series) as his new companion.

“I’m a different person who looks and sounds like Oswin”
Snow shrouds the Doctor Who set, dusting a Dickensian street with a silvery shimmer while Matt Smith and a Sontaran chum rehearse and director Saul Metzstein scrutinises a monitor with the rapt attention of an expectant mum at a baby scan.

But another blanket also covers the proceedings that is much more perplexing: secrecy.

Fort Knox-style security always surrounds the making of Doctor Who - and no one is clearer than showrunner Steven Moffat that spoilers are so called for a reason - but his third Christmas episode, The Snowmen, warrants special measures.

Security is tight, confidentiality agreements are signed and RT has been warned that prematurely breathing a word of what we’re about to see may result in a big sleep with the fishes in Cardiff Bay.

The issue is out now at all good newsagents priced £1.40 per copy.
