Doctor Who: Dead Air - Cover & Info

BBC Audio have released the cover and synopsis on a new exclusive Doctor Who audio:

DEAD AIR - written by James Goss & read by David Tennant 
 "Hello, I’m the Doctor. And, if you can hear this, then one of us is going to die."

At the bottom of the sea, in the wreck of a floating radio station, a lost recording has been discovered. After careful restoration, it is played for the first time - to reveal something incredible. It is the voice of the Doctor, broadcasting from Radio Bravo in 1966. He has travelled to Earth in search of the Hush - a terrible weapon that kills, silences and devours anything that makes noise - and has tracked it to a boat crewed by a team of pirate DJs. With the help of feisty Liverpudlian Layla and some groovy pop music, he must trap the Hush and destroy it - before it can escape and destroy the world…

Issue 150 of Doctor Who Adventures magazine is on sale from today at all good newsagents until 27th January priced £2.10 per copy. In other news: At the National TV Awards last night, Doctor Who won the Best Drama award and David Tennant won the Best Drama Performance award.

American Version of Torchwood in Development?

Fox, an American TV network, is developing a stateside version Torchwood. The project is from BBC Worldwide Prods, with original series creator Russell T. Davies writing the script, along with an original producing team, including former Doctor Who executive producers Julie Gardener and Jane Tarnter, a BBC Worldwide Prods production vet in the US. Some of the current cast - most likely John Barrowman, who plays the immortal Captain Jack Harkness, might star if Fox orders Torchwood to pilot. As for the new show's plot, the US version will contain a global story line compared to the more localized sensibility of the first two BBC series versions. Torchwood is to return in the UK with a new 10-part series sometime in the future. Further details will be posted soon. In other news: Don't forget to watch the National TV Awards tonight at 7:30pm on ITV1, as Doctor Who and David Tennant have been nominated for Best Drama and Best Drama Performance. Also, it has been confirmed that filming for the fourth series of The Sarah Jane Adventures will start in March - the series is set for broadcast this Autumn on CBBC.

New BBC Drama Village Planned to be Built

The BBC have today revealed their plan for a new BBC Drama Village to be built in Cardiff Bay, which will house 170,000 new television studios. An office building is also planned to be built.

If the planning consent is granted, filming for Doctor Who, Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures, along with other dramas produced by BBC Wales, including Casualty and Pobol y Cwm, would move to the production base, as the coporation plans to double the amount of television network production in Wales by 2016.

The Director of BBC Cymru Wales, Menna Richards, stated: “This is a fantastic opportunity to build on the success of BBC Wales drama production and the wider creative industries in Wales,”

Currently, production for Doctor Who, Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures is based just outside Cardiff in Upper Boat, near Pontypridd. Series five of Doctor Who is currenlty being filmed there and is set to broadcast this spring on BBC One and BBC HD.

Doctor Who: The End of Time Figures

Character Options have released info on a new wave of Doctor Who figures based on the Tenth Doctor's final story The End of Time:

Recreate scenes from The End of Time Parts One & Two with these realistic and highly detailed action figures. The four 5” figures comprise the dishevelled and injured Tenth Doctor with the Sonic Screwdriver and the newly regenerated Eleventh Doctor in a smarter version of the Tenth Doctor’s suit also with Sonic Screwdriver. Two further figures depict the Master, played by John Simm, back in dark and dusty clothes and the Narrator, played by Timothy Dalton, in Time Lord robes and holding his staff. 

The Doctor Who: The End of Time figures are on sale later this month at all good toy stores priced £8.99 each.

Doctor Who: Dreamland DVD - Cover & Info

2entertain have released the cover and synopsis of the Doctor Who: Dreamland DVD:
 
Stumbling across a mysterious alien artefact in a local diner, the Doctor is led to Area 51, also known as Dreamland, the US’ most secret base. He then finds himself on a momentous mission to rescue Rivesh Mantilax from the threat of the ruthless Viperox and the clutches of the American military.

Created in eye-catching high-definition 3-D animation, the series sees the Doctor, played by David Tennant, hook up with two new companions - Cassie (Georgia Moffett) and Jimmy (Tim Howar) - and pits him against a new alien race, the monstrous Viperox, led by Lord Azlok (David Warner). 

This is a two disc set which includes Dreamland on one disc and all three full-length episodes of Doctor Who's Greatest Moments on the other and is on salefrom 1st February at all good DVD stores priced £12.99 per copy.

National Television Awards Voting Poll Now Open

The National Television Awards - 2010 is to broadcast later this month - and you can vote for nominated actors, presenters and shows! Doctor Who have been nominated for Best Drama, along with David Tennant for Best Drama Performance. Click here to vote (among other categories). The NTA ceremony will broadcast live on Wednesday 20th January from 7:30pm on ITV1.

Murray Gold Conducting Music for Series Five of Doctor Who

In a recent interview with Music from the Movies, Murray Gold has confirmed that he is currently contucting new music for series five of Doctor Who. He also states that he is working on a new version of the theme tune. Also, Gold confirmed that Doctor Who writers Mark Gatiss and Gareth Roberts have writtten stories for the new series, along with new head writer Steven Moffat and Richard Curtis. Doctor Who returns this coming spring on BBC One and BBC HD.
