Doctor Who: The Empty House Audio CD - Cover & Info

BBC Audio have released the cover and synopsis of a new exclusive Doctor Who audio adventure:

THE EMPTY HOUSE - written by Simon Guerrier, read by Raquel Cassidy

When the Tardis materialises in rural England in the 1920s, the Doctor and his friends discover a crashed spaceship nearby. 

It’s the beginning of a nightmarish adventure for them.

Doctor Who: The Empty House is on sale from 6th September at all good CD stores priced £10.20 per copy.

Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Drama Commissioned

The BBC have announced that a special BBC Two drama has been commissioned to mark the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who next year, read on for further details.

AN ADVENTURE IN SPACE AND TIME TO MARK THE DOCTOR’S 50th BIRTHDAY

An Adventure in Space and Time will tell the story of the genesis of Doctor Who since its first broadcast on 23rd November 1963.  Exploring all aspects of the longest running science fiction series to date, the special one off 90 minute drama will also look at the many personalities involved in bringing the series to life.

Written by Mark Gatiss, it is executive produced by current Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat and Caroline Skinner.  The single drama was commissioned by Ben Stephenson Controller, Drama and Janice Hadlow, Controller of BBC Two.

Mark Gatiss, writer, said:

"This is the story of how an unlikely set of brilliant people created a true television original. And how an actor - William Hartnell - stereotyped in hard-man roles became a hero to millions of children. I've wanted to tell this story this for more years than I can remember! To make it happen for 'Doctor Who's 50th birthday is quite simply a dream come true".

Steven Moffat, executive producer, said:

“The story of Doctor Who is the story of television - so it's fitting in the anniversary year that we make our most important journey back in time to see how the Tardis was launched.” 

The production and transmission schedule will be confirmed next year, along with casting. Doctor Who returns to BBC One and BBC One HD later this month.

Doctor Who: Christmas Special Stars Announced

The BBC have confirmed two new co-stars to appear in this year's Doctor Who Christmas special, read on for further details:

Early this morning we revealed that Richard E Grant will appear in the new series of Doctor Who.  We can now confirm that he joins the cast for this year’s Christmas Special which will also star Tom Ward.

Richard E Grant voiced the Doctor in the animated adventure, Scream of the Shalka, after briefly appearing as the Time Lord in The Curse of Fatal Death, a light-hearted Comic Relief Special that was written by Steven Moffat. Tom Ward is perhaps best known for his role of Harry in Silent Witness, but this isn’t his first brush with time traveling adventures, having starred as the title character in The Infinite Worlds of H.G. Wells.

A BBC press release also reveals the Christmas Special begins filming this week and was written by Steven Moffat and directed by Saul Metzstein. In the episode, the Doctor (Matt Smith) will be joined by the new companion, played by Jenna-Louise Coleman. 

Filming of 2012's Doctor Who Christmas episode starts this week with two big film and television stars joining the show. 

Richard E Grant, actor, author and director, has starred in over 80 film and television hits including Withnail And I, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Jack & Sarah, Gosford Park and The Iron Lady. 

On joining the show, Richard says: "I played Doctor Who in the digital animated Scream Of The Shalka and I'm honoured to be in the Christmas Special." 

Tom Ward, who has starred in BBC One's in Silent Witness as Harry Cunningham since 2002 also joins the Doctor, played by Matt Smith, and his new companion played by Jenna-Louise Coleman.

It is written by Steven Moffat and directed by Saul Metzstein. It will be shot in Cardiff at BBC Wales' studios. 

Doctor Who returns later this month to BBC One and BBC One HD.

The BBC have released a brand new trailer promoting the next series of Doctor Who, you can watch it above. The trailer will make it's TV debut tonight at 8:00pm on BBC One. Doctor Who returns later this month to BBC One and BBC One HD.

Doctor Who: First Asylum of the Daleks Promo Image

The BBC have released the first promo image from the new series of Doctor Who. The image, as seen above, is from the season opener titled Asylum of the Daleks. You can download the image in the sizes 4x3 and 16x9. Also new trailer promoting the series will premiere later today at 6:00am and make its TV debut at 8:00pm on BBC One. Doctor Who returns later this month to BBC One and BBC One HD.
