The Day of the Doctor - Tonight!

50 years ago to this day, the first ever Doctor Who episode An Unearthly Child broadcast for the first time on BBC Television. 50 years on, and the show as produced 33 successful series (with number 34 in pre-production) consisting of over 200 stories within 798 episodes, 3 movies and 5 animations, as well as a bundle of mini-episodes and 4 spin-off shows. 

In celebration of the milestone, the Doctor Who 50th anniversary special The Day of the Doctor - shot in 3D - is to broadcast this evening simultaneously around the globe from 7:50pm GMT on both TV and select cinemas worldwide, read on for the synopsis:

THE DAY OF THE DOCTOR - by Steven Moffat
The Doctors embark on their greatest adventure in this 50th anniversary special. In 2013, something terrible is awakening in London’s National Gallery; in 1562, a murderous plot is afoot in Elizabethan England; and somewhere in space an ancient battle reaches its devastating conclusion. All of reality is at stake as the Doctor’s own dangerous past comes back to haunt him.

The episode will be available to watch on BBC iPlayer soon after broadcast. The special is to be followed by Doctor Who Live: The Aftermath at 9:05pm on BBC ThreeDoctor Who will return later this year with its annual Christmas special - more details coming soon.
