Doctor Who Adventures - Issue 256

The cover and info on the next edition of Doctor Who Adventures magazine:

We go Dalek crazy in this week's bumper issue of Doctor Who Adventures
"Two useful things I’ve learned this week; one: it’s quite tricky to play a xylophone when you’re underwater - especially if you’re underwater on the Moon of Poosh where the coral try to eat you. Two: if you play tunes by Olly Murs, the coral want to sing along and forget to bite you."

This week in Doctor Who Adventures, we ponder the ultimate question and ask "Doctor Who?"  See how many different things the Doctor's been called and work out your own Time Lord name!

You can also take the quiz to find out which type of Dalek you are, and see backstage on how to destroy one.  Plus, follow the history of Dorium and find out Matt Smith's secrets from Day of the Moon.

Have a royal laugh with the Wooden King and Queen's jokes, read an all-new comic adventure starring the Doctor, Amy and Rory, and solve some brilliantly tricky puzzles..

These weeks issue comes with a Silence sketch pad, pencils and monster folder.

Doctor Who: Darkstar Academy - Cover & Info

BBC Audio have revealed the cover and synopsis of a new exlusive Doctor Who audio CD:

DARKSTAR ACADEMY - written by Mark Morris, read by Alexander Armstrong
When the Tardis is buffeted by ‘time slippage’, the Doctor experiences a terrible vision of the end of everything. Tracking the source of the disruption, he takes Rory and Amy to what appears to be an English public school in the 1950s. But as the friends are about to discover, there are some very unusual things about Darkstar Academy. For a start, the prefects carry guns, and then there is the strange forcefield that surrounds the perimeter. Not to mention the foot-long, crab-like creatures with spiny, armoured bodies...

When the Doctor learns the truth about the Academy, he also discovers that the whole place is in terrible danger. But with a swarm of carnivorous creatures on the loose, what can he, Amy and Rory do to help prevent a terrible disaster?

Doctor Who: Darkstar Academy is on sale from 8th March at all good CD stores priced £10.20 per copy.

The BBC have confirmed that filming for the next series of Doctor Who is due to start on Monday 20th February, read on for further details:

It's almost time. New monsters are becoming real, old friends are returning to Cardiff and somewhere in Wales, a tweed jacket is being taken from its hanger and lovingly dusted off. It can only mean one thing - filming on the new series of Doctor Who begins on 20 February, 2012!

The first director to shout 'action' will be the award-winning Saul Metzstein whose previous credits include Micro Men (starring Alexander Armstrong and Martin Freeman), the critically acclaimed Late Night Shopping and BBC Wales' Upstairs Downstairs. For the very first time, Doctor Who will be produced at the new BBC Roath Lock Studios in Cardiff, which officially open in March. The production team includes Steven Moffat (executive producer and lead writer), Caroline Skinner (executive producer) and Marcus Wilson (producer).

The new series will see Matt Smith return as the Doctor in what Steven Moffat has described as 'the biggest, the best and the most ambitious season we've ever made'. Karen Gillan (Amy) and Arthur Darvill (Rory) are both back, for what will be their final voyage with the Doctor - a thrilling rollercoaster ride which will culminate in a heart-breaking farewell to the Ponds. But there will be more shocks, surprises and adventures to come when the Doctor meets a new friend, in the last very place he could ever have expected...

And yes! We've been promised the return of some old monsters, but some new and terrifying ones lie in wait for the Doctor...

We'll be bringing you all the news about the incredible new series as it emerges, so stay tuned for some big surprises!

Melbourne Symphony Orchestra to Perform a Doctor Who Spectacular!

The BBC have confirmed that the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra from Australia is to perform as part of the Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre this weekend, read on for more details:

History will be made this weekend as the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Ben Foster, performs Murray Gold's thrilling music from the two most recent series of Doctor Who.

It's the first time such an event has occurred outside the UK and the first and only Australian performances of the show will be this Saturday, 4th Feb at 2pm and 7pm at the Plenary Hall, Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. Both shows are sold out.

Inspired by the BBC Doctor Who Proms at Royal Albert Hall in London, the Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular will be an exhilarating live event, accompanied by a big screen presentation of key moments and specially edited sequences showcasing Matt Smith's portrayal of the Doctor. BBC Wales' Paul Bullock, who produced the previous Doctor Who Proms and the seminal Doctor Who: A Celebration back in 2006, is producing this latest extravaganza.

The performances are hosted by Mark Sheppard, best known as Canton Everett Delaware III in The Impossible Astronaut / Day of the Moon. He'll be joined by his old friends the Silence with a host of other monsters including Daleks, Cybermen and Judoon invading the auditorium!

Mark is clearly delighted to be back in the world of everyone's favourite Time Lord. "Doctor Who is such a fantastic show and the fans' loyalty is incredible,' he commented. 'The music has been a key component in the success of the show; it's instantaneously identifiable and spine-tingling. I can't wait to hear the sounds of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra - and the Tardis - filling Plenary Hall."

Matthew Van Besien, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Managing Director, was equally enthusiastic. "The response from the Australian public to this concert has been overwhelming and I know the Orchestra are really looking forward to being a part of such a unique and world famous production..."

In other news: Alex Kingston has rumoured that River Song "may" return in the next series of Doctor Who this Autumn, more details coming soon...
