Silver Nemesis Cyber Leader & Cyberman Figure Set - Forbidden Planet Exclusive

Characters Options have released info on a new Forbidden Planet Doctor Who figure set exclusive:

Silver Nemesis Cyber Leader & Cyberman

The Seventh Doctor and Ace visit Windsor, England in 1988, where three factions - the Cybermen, a group of Neo-Nazis and a 17th Century time travelling sorceress named Lady Peinforte - are each attempting to capture a weapon made of a living metal, Validium, created as the ultimate defence for Gallifrey. The weapon is now in the form of a statue of Lady Peinforte and has three components that must be brought together in order to be activated.

In order to foil an earlier attempt to control it, the Doctor launched the weapon inside an asteroid, into a 25 year orbit over 300 years ago. The asteroid now crashes back to Earth near Windsor Castle. The Doctor plays the three rival groups off against one other until eventually he appears to surrender the statue to the Cybermen. However, this is just another carefully-laid trap by the Doctor and the Cybermen warships are totally wiped out when they attempt to control the weapon.

In this exclusive figure set we present the Cyber Leader and Cyberman each with a Cybergun from the 1988 story Silver Nemesis.

The figure set is on sale at Forbidden Planet stores (only) from 7th July priced £24.99. You can pre-order it here. In other news: The next issue of Doctor Who Magazine confirms that episode eight of the current series of Doctor Who is titled The Hungry Earth. The BBC are yet to confirm this.

The BBC Press Office have released a press pack concerning more info on the forthcoming series of The Sarah Jane Adventures. One two-part story will feature old Doctor Who companion Jo Grant as well as the latest incarnation of the Doctor, played by Matt Smith. Here's the press pack:

Sarah Jane Smith is reunited with another of the Doctor's former companions, Jo Grant (Katy Manning), in a new series of The Sarah Jane Adventures, set to air on CBBC this autumn. They'll be joined by the Eleventh Doctor (Matt Smith), in a special edition of the show penned by executive producer Russell T Davies.

The two episodes will see the Doctor and his two former time-travelling partners caught up in an alien-busting adventure that will entertain Doctor Who fans of all ages.

Elisabeth Sladen, who plays Sarah Jane comments: "It's a fantastic script and I can't wait to work with another Doctor and hope Matt has fun with us. I've known Katy for ages and I am delighted to be working with her. I last met her in LA but this time we will be in Cardiff. LA was good but Cardiff is better."

Katy Manning, who recently returned to live in the UK again, adds: "Playing Jo Grant again is something I never really considered. I was gob-smacked when they told me and I am over the moon. What an incredible little treat. I come home and this is one of the first things that happens."

Executive producer Nikki Wilson says: "We are absolutely thrilled to be introducing Sarah Jane and the gang to both the Eleventh Doctor and Jo Grant, and to have a script penned by Russell T Davies is the icing on the cake!

"Viewers are in for a real treat, with an action-packed story full of Russell's usual wit and warmth, which takes the gang inside a secret base beneath Snowdon and introduces brand-new vulture aliens, the mysterious Shansheeth. All this, plus a trip to an alien planet - a first for The Sarah Jane Adventures."

Featuring the usual mixture of thrills, laughs and scares, the fourth series promises fun with enemies old and new, including the terrors of the Nightmare Man and a dangerous journey back into history.

A galaxy of guest stars are lined up to appear in the series and include Laila Rouass (Primeval, Footballers Wives) and Cheryl Campbell (Pennies From Heaven), whilst David Bradley (Argus Filch in Harry Potter) will provide the voice of the Shansheeth.

Torchwood’s Gareth David-Lloyd pens comic
The new issue of the official Torchwood magazine - on sale 15th April - plays host to an exclusive Torchwood comic strip penned by Torchwood star and fan-favourite, Gareth David-Lloyd!

David-Lloyd’s character, Ianto Jones, who died in Captain Jack’s arms in the recent Torchwood five-part series Children of Earth, gets a new lease of life and takes centre stage once again in this exclusive comic strip - a move that will delight all fans of the criticallly acclaimed Doctor Who spin-off.

Additionally, he is set a mission that could alter the course of life, as he knows it, forever…

Doctor Who April 2010 Novels - Covers & Info

BBC Books have released the covers and synopsis on three new Doctor Who novels:
Apollo 23 - by Justin Richards
'For a few moments this afternoon, it rained on the moon...'

An astronaut in full spacesuit appears out of thin air in a busy shopping centre.

Maybe it’s a publicity stunt. A photo shows a well-dressed woman in a red coat lying dead at the edge of a crater on the dark side of the moon – beside her beloved dog ‘Poochie’. Maybe it’s a hoax. But as the Doctor and Amy find out, these are just minor events in a sinister plan to take over every human being on earth. The plot centres on a secret military base on the moon – that’s where Amy and the TARDIS are.

The Doctor is back on Earth, and without the TARDIS there’s no way he can get to the moon to save Amy and defeat the aliens. Or is there? The Doctor discovers one last great secret that could save humanity: Apollo 23.
Night of the Humans - by David Llewelyn
'This is the Gyre - the most hostile environment in the galaxy...'

250,000 years’ worth of junk floating in deep space, home to the shipwrecked Sittuun, the carnivorous Sollogs, and worst of all – the Humans. The Doctor and Amy arrive on this terrifying world in the middle of an all-out frontier war between Sittuun and Humans, and the countdown has already started. There’s a comet in the sky, and it’s on a collision course with the Gyre...

When the Doctor is kidnapped, it’s up to Amy and “galaxy-famous swashbuckler” Dirk Slipstream to save the day. But who is Slipstream, exactly? And what is he really doing here?
The Forgotten Army - by Brian Minchin
'Let me tell you a story. Long ago, in the frozen Arctic wastes, an alien army landed. Only now, 10,000 years later, it isn’t a story. And the army is ready to attack.’

New York - one of the greatest cities on 21st century Earth... But what’s going on in the Museum? And is that really a Woolly Mammoth rampaging down Broadway? An ordinary day becomes a time of terror, as the Doctor and Amy meet a new and deadly enemy. The vicious Army of the Vykoid are armed to the teeth and determined to enslave the human race. Even though they’re only seven centimetres high.

With the Vykoid army swarming across Manhattan and sealing it from the world with a powerful alien force field, Amy has just 24 hours to find the Doctor and save the city. If she doesn’t, the people of Manhattan will be taken to work in the doomed asteroid mines of the Vykoid home planet. But as time starts to run out, who can she trust? And how far will she have to go to free New York from the Forgotten Army?

The novels are on sale from 22nd April priced £6.99 each. Also in book news:

The TARIDS Handbook - by Steve Tribe
Everything you need to know about the TARDIS is here - where it came from, where it’s been, how it works, and how it has changed since we first encountered it in a London junkyard in 1963.
Including photos, design drawings, floor plans and instruction manuals from different eras of the series, this handbook explores the ship’s endless interior, looking inside its wardrobe and bedrooms, its power rooms and sick bay, its corridors and cloisters, and revealing just how the show’s production teams have created the dimensionally transcendental police box, inside and out.

The TARDIS Handbook is on sale from 27th May priced £12.99 per copy. More to come!

Character Options have released info on two new Doctor Who products:

Eleventh Doctor's Sonic Screwdriver - £14.99
The Doctor’s multipurpose tool is a Gallifreyan device, with numerous settings, easily controlled at the press of his thumb. The Doctor has had many sonic screwdrivers of different designs throughout his life, and this latest one was created from within the TARDIS console itself after the previous one was destroyed during a confrontation with Prisoner Zero in the village of Leadworth. This new sonic is larger, with a luminous green light but continues to be an essential part of the Doctor’s equipment as he explores the universe. This faithful copy of the Doctor’s trusty Sonic Device has spring loaded extending action. Pressing the button on the side of the handle activates the LED and Sound FX which operates in CLOSED mode. Flip open the cap at the end of the Screwdriver to reveal an additional button that activates the light and sound effects when it is in full extension OPEN mode. Requires 3 x L1154 batteries.

Eleventh Doctor Crash Set - £14.99
Recreate scenes from the ‘Eleventh Hour’ with this twin pack that features two incredibly detailed and authentic Eleventh Doctor five inch action figures. When the Eleventh Doctor’s TARDIS crashes into the garden of young Amelia Pond, he is still wearing the remains of the Tenth Doctor’s suit, ripped and raggedy from the damage after the TARDIS control room exploded. After he departs, Amelia grows up, telling her friends about ‘The Raggedy Doctor’, making dolls and puppets of him. When he returns to her life after twelve years, he’s still wearing the same battered clothes but, shortly before facing down the Atraxi, he selects for himself a new outfit, ‘borrowed’ from various lockers at the local hospital.
